Robin has had a career as an artist for 25 years. He first started painting in water colours a medium he enjoyed but with requests for more technical work such as aviation and steam subjects he became frustrated that he was not able to get the finish he wanted, and so after a difficult decision he switched to painting in oils, which he now feels was the right decision. In the mid eighties Robin started to submit his aviation paintings to the prestigious Guild of Aviation Artists annual exhibition in London, and after winning trophies over several years, he was selected as a full member. The exhibition is now held at the Mall Galleries in London each July and Robin will exhibit at least one painting.Robin’s work is not all aviation, at any event you will see a cross section of subjects including beautiful landscapes, coastal scenes, traction engine scenes which all have one thing in common wonderful skies, something that he feels is very important in any painting. Robin’s latest challenge has been to successfully tackle the discipline of still life a subject that he has always admired when another artist has captured the composition perfectly. He is now working on his second piece of still life which has been commissioned by a company from Windsor that is raising money for the Sydney Camm Memorial, Sydney Cam being the designer of the WW11 Hurricane and many other well known aircraft. Many of the paintings which come out of the studio are now commissioned by private and corporate clients. In recent years Robin has painted for The Royal Artillery, R.A.F Cranwell an oil rig Exploration company who like to name their sited after second world war aircraft. Film director Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings fame, is also one of Robin’s regular clients. As the years have gone by, Robin has now become one of the worlds best known aviation artists. Robin likes to demonstrate at events and so will be seen at his easel working, if you see him please stop and have a chat, he is always happy to talk about art.
